Diving notes

Behavior to have: respect the environment and the fauna.

The dives are done from a boat (except otherwise). The water current is mild (ask to the charter). Ask to local dive operators (see below). The dives are done in sea water, watch your buoyancy. Raise the weight on your weight belt accordingly. A 7.5mm thick neoprene wet suit is mandatory. A dry suit may be more suitable depending of your comfort habits. Water temperature oscillates around 37 to 42°F.

It is important to note that if you do your dive from the shore, a dive flag is mandatory. Be carefull with the wildlife and accidental wounds. Watch you buoyancy. Take note that in case of emergency, the cell phone cannot be used, have a safety diver on the surface.

Ask to people it’s exact location. Dive at low tide, on the northern side of the road near the lighthouse.

420-60′Mourner’s DelightLocated at Northern Harbour, access by boat.
520-80′Clam Cove Head ReefLocated at Fairheaven, marked by a buoy. Dive at low tide only.
630′Custom House BeachDive at low tide or just before only. It is a dive boat needed for security also.
720-80′WhirpoolLocated at Deer Island Point. Dive for experienced or advanced divers. Dive at low tide only from the West to the East side. It is mandatory to dive with a local charter.
860′Chocolate CoveLocated at the East side of Deer Island Point. Dive at low tide only. It is mandatory to dive with a local charter.
940′Bottle DiveLocated at the South Point of Indian Island and North-West of Marble Island. Dive at low tide only. It is mandatory to dive with a local charter.
1070′Casco BayLocated in the bay on the South side of Casco Bay. Dive at low tide only. It is mandatory to dive with a local charter. Current gets stronger 3 days prior and 3 days after new and full moons.
1150′Head HarbourLocated at the East of the North Point of Campobello Island and to the West of Head Harbour. Dive at low tide only. It is mandatory to dive with a local charter.

Driving directions


Don’t get into trouble, bring your C-card with you.

From road 1, watch for the road sign and exit toward road 172 to Letete. You have then to take the free ferry ( N.-B. 506-747-7007). The crossing is 20 minutes long. Departures are at each half-hour from Letete 07:00 until 18:30 and then at each hour from 19:00 until 22:00. From the island departures start 30 minutes earlier.
